Fan lace tutorial

Here we go. Now, I'm going to warn you ahead of time that my camera work is lacking. It was the best that I could muster at 4am all by myself.
Fan lace part 1: A better look and a short explanation

Fan lace part 2: Casting on

Fan lace part 3: Getting started

Fan lace part 4: Making lace!

Fan lace part 5: More explanation

Fan lace photo diagram (click the photo for a larger view of my shaky mouse hand tracing of the path of construction)
I hope that this helps to explain things. I would have written out instructions but I just couldn't figure out a good way of wording it.

Thank you! Your videos are very clear, and give me all the info I need to try this, too. And I also appreciate your calm, positive, and encouraging approach

It's probably a good thing that you were tired and made a few mistakes, as I am such a noob, that seeing how you easily fixed the mistakes taught me lots too, and will help me as I knit.

I'm not sure how you would write out this pattern--video was definitely the way to go with this. Very impressive!

Awesome techique! Thanks so much for figuring it out and sharing it. I think this will be a demo at an upcoming DFW Machine Kniters Meeting! (www.dfwmachineknitters.com)

John Allen has some similar stitches in his stich book with short row techniques, but I have never seen this one.

I will be very interested to see what you can make with this. It may keep me up nights for a while.

Thank you for making the videos, they are great.
I'll have to have a go at this pattern myself, it looks really nice.

Love the video. Great job on your projects.:)

I thoroughly enjoyed your video. It's hard to believe that you are a "novice" machine knitter!

I will try out your technique asap!

I loved the videos. Thank you so much for posting them here (and figuring out how to do this stitch). It is a lovely pattern.
Hard for me to believe your a novice. You are so talented and have a mind for this sort of thing. I appreciate your "mistakes" as it helped me to see how to go about making the corrections I'm sure to need. You did a fabulous job. I'll be watching this blog for further ideas.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with your videos... I came across your fan lace pattern accidentally while looking for "lace stole" on Google. Glad I found it. I want to try this out on my km. Thanks so much!!

Cheryl,

Thank so much for these FABULOUS tutorial videos! The fan lace is just gorgeous and you are a natural when it comes to teaching. You make it look so easy, even to me, who really IS a novice (I had to laugh when you called yourself one; how could a "novice" figure out such a pattern?). I did want to let you know that in playing with the pattern, I discovered that on my gauge machine (vintage KnitKing Automatic), a 4x8 Lego block pulls exactly 3 or 6 needles in and out of work. Perfect for this pattern! Maybe it would work on your machine too? What a time saver for setting up the 3-6-3 pattern.

Thanks again...FABULOUS and I can't wait to try it!

I made a scarf by watching your video. Used Caron Simply Soft on the LK 150. It turned out beautifully.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video.

A lovely piece of lace which I will have to try. I seen a shrug knitted from this lace at my Machine Knitters Guild but did not know how it was produced.
Thanks for the video as a picture says a thousand words.

I just found this via Ravelry's machine knit group. I can't wait to try it on my bulky. It's really beautiful. Plus I know it takes a long time to post stuff like this and I'm so grateful for people like yourself who take the time to do it - thank you.

I am new to machine knitting. In fact, I just ordered my first machine, Brother KX-390. It seemed that your machine ran really smoothly in your video and I am curious which machine you have. I have a feeling I will want to get a metal bed machine at some point and I am already researching them.

Thank you so much for posting this video! I am super excited to try it. I'm a novice machine knitter in AK without a lot of options for people to help me. Much appreciated! PS-Your videos are just fine. Clear and easy to see with easy to understand instructions.

Thank you so much for taking the time to figure out this pattern.I have watched and rewatched your videos and am knitting a scarf for a friend with some yarn she gave me (she said I could have the cone if I made her something). I think she'll love it. You are a natural.

Only just found your videos. It's excellent. I was trying to find a pattern similar to crochet for a beach cover. This will be perfect. Thank you. 🌻
